Admission procedures to Bachelor's or Integrated Master's Degrees

The general regime is aimed at National and other European Union Applicants who wish to enroll in a Bachelor's Degree (1st cycle) or Integrated Master's Degree at Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Applicants that are eligible to apply under the general regime:

1. Applicants who have completed Portuguese secondary education;
2. Applicants who have completed foreign secondary education.

 Applicants who have completed Portuguese secondary education:

• To have completed a secondary education or have a legally equivalent qualification;
• To have taken, in the year in which they are applying or in the two previous years, the entrance exam(s) - national secondary education exams - set for the Bachelor's degree course(s) or Integrated master's degree course(s) they wish to apply to.

For 2024/25 applications, exams taken in 2022, 2032 and 2024 are accepted.

The application score results from the weighted average of the final grade of the secondary education course or legally equivalent qualification at 60% and the grade of the entrance examination(s) at 40% (in case of 2 examinations, 20% each), with the exception of some courses identified below.

Applicants who have completed foreign secondary education:

• To have completed a foreign secondary education course,  in Portugal or abroad, legally equivalent to Portuguese secondary education;
• The final examinations of foreign secondary education considered to be homologous are admitted as entrance examinations, according to the following correspondence table.

The application score is calculated in a similar way to that of Portuguese secondary school candidates.

A documentação varia mediante o ensino secundário frequentado pelo candidato: 

1. Applicants who have completed Portuguese secondary education;
2. Applicants who have completed foreign secondary education.

If you have completed Portuguese secondary education in Portugal you will need to present the following documents:

• "Cartão de cidadão" (ID);
• 1 Photo (Passport size);
• "Ficha ENES" obligatorily issued in the year in which you apply (you should request this document at your secondary school);

The form ("Ficha ENES") is obtained from the secondary school where the student has taken the last exams and must be handed in to the University within the deadlines indicated in the calendar.

• An English language level certificate is also required for international degrees and the Integrated Master's in Medicine.

If you have completed foreign secondary education, in Portugal or abroad, you will need to submit the following documents:

• ID document;
• Taxpayer identification number;
• 1 Photo (Passport size);
• Official diploma certifying foreign secondary education completed successfully  (1) (with final grades);
• Equivalence of Foreign Secondary Education Qualifications to the Portuguese education system (2);
• An English language level certificate is also required for international degrees and the Integrated Master's in Medicine.

(1) Certificates issued outside Portugal must be legalised/authenticated, depending on the country, in:

        -Portuguese embassies or consular services in the foreign country;

      - embassies or consular services of foreign countries in Portugal (previously inform yourself if this option exists);

       - In the country of origin, for countries that adhered to the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, ratified by Decree-Law no. 48450, published in the Government Gazette, 1st Series, no. 148, of June 24, 1968.

      - In countries where there is no Portuguese diplomatic representation, or which did not adhere to the Hague Convention Apostille, the legalization/authentication will be made, depending on the case, by the official entity of the country of origin competent for that purpose (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice).

When the documents to be submitted are written in a foreign language other than Spanish, English, Italian or French, the respective official translation should be provided (made under the terms foreseen in the notarial law).

(2) The declaration of equivalence is obtained from the Portuguese secondary school in your area of residence or from the Directorate General of Education.

The following additional documentation may also be required:

• Declaration, issued by a competent entity for the effect (duly authenticated), with information on the grading scale used and respective minimum grade for approval;
• Information on the foreign education system to which the qualification relates (e.g. number of years of schooling, entrance requirements, school certification).

• Medicine (Lisboa) - 140 points
• Administração e Gestão de Empresas (Lisboa) - 120 points
• Economia (Lisboa) - 120 points
• Philosophy, Politics and Economics (Lisboa) - 120 points
• International Undergraduate Program in Business Administration (Lisboa) - 120 points
• International Undergraduate Program in Economics & Finance (Lisboa) - 120 points

Minimum application score of 100 points (0-200) except:

• Medicine (Lisboa) - 150 points
• Business Administration (Lisboa) - 140 points
• Economics (Lisboa) - 140 points
• Philosophy, Politics and Economics (Lisboa) - 120 points
• International Undergraduate Program in Business Administration (Lisboa) - 140 points
• International Undergraduate Program in Economics & Finance (Lisboa) - 140 points
• Dental Medicine (Viseu) - 130 points

Lisboa - Headquarters:

• International Undergraduate Programs: Motivation letters, CV, English certificate, and interview, if applicable.
• Licenciatura em Enfermagem (Nursing): Group A - Interpersonal communication proven by medical certificate.
• Integrated Master's in Medicine: Group A - Interpersonal communication proven by medical certificate; minimum English proficiency score [Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF or CEFR): level C1] | motivation letter | interview.

For the International Undergraduate Programs and Integrated Master's in Medicine, the prerequisite classification is included in the calculation of the application score with a weight of 15%, 50% being attributed to the final classification of the secondary education course and 35% to the grade of the entrance examination.

Porto Regional Centre:

• Licenciatura em Enfermagem (Nursing): Group A - Interpersonal communication proven by medical certificate.
• Licenciatura em Cinema: Completion of an online vocational questionnaire and the submission of an artistic portfolio. Candidates will be called for an interview via Skype, to be scheduled after registration.
• Licenciatura em Som e Imagem (Sound and Image): Interview and portfolio submission, if applicable.

For the courses of Cinema (Porto) and Sound and Image (Porto) the classification of the pre-requisite is included in the calculation of the application mark with a weight of 15%, 50% being attributed to the final classification of the secondary education course and 35% to the classification of the entrance examination.

Viseu Regional Centre:

• Integrated Master's in Dental Medicine: Group A - Interpersonal communication proven by medical certificate.

The application score can be calculated using the final classification of the secondary education course and the entrance examination(s). The application score (except Cinema, Sound and Image, International Undergraduate Programs, and Medicine) is calculated according to the following formula:

• Final classification of the secondary education course or legally equivalent qualification: 60%.
• Classification of the entrance examination or examinations (in the case of 2 examinations, 20% each): 40%

The Change of Institution/Course Pair is the act by which a student enrolls and/or registers in a different institution/course pair from the one(s) in which, in previous school years, they carried out an enrollment (Portaria n.º181-D/2015 of 19 June).

It is aimed at students who:

1. Have been enrolled and registered in another institution/course pair and have not completed it;
2. Have taken the national exams of secondary education corresponding to the entrance examinations set by the Universidade Católica Portuguesa for the year in which they request the Change of Institution/Course Pair (these national exams may have been taken in any previous school year);
3. Have, in those exams, the minimum classification required by the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in that year.

The change to a programme for which prerequisites or specific vocational aptitudes are required is conditional upon their satisfaction.

The change of institution/course pair is not allowed in the academic year in which the student has been placed in a higher education institution/course pair under any access and admission regime and has enrolled and registered.

This access regime is aimed at candidates holding a medium or higher education degree, either Portuguese or foreign, who have attended Higher Education.

Universidade Católica Portuguesa, under the scope of the Decree-Law 64/2006, of 21st March, and by dispatch NR/R/0108/2006, allows access to its undergraduate courses for people over 23 years of age who do not hold a qualification for access to higher education, but can prove their capacity to attend it.

• Turn 23 years old by 31 December 2020;
• Not to be the holder of a qualification for access to higher education;
• The applicants are subject to a special test, which will take place in the respective Faculty/School/Institute.
