Lourdes Castro: A vida como ela é

"Lourdes Castro: A vida como ela é", is the title of the exhibition that brings together works by Lourdes Castro (Funchal, 1930 - 2022) made between the 1950s and the 2000s and will inaugurate on May 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Amélia de Mello Foundation Gallery of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Lisbon.

For Lourdes Castro, shadows - of people, of objects - are the link between presence and absence, the frontier between materiality and immateriality. From this discovery, she built an irreducibly singular work, in which stand out, in the 1960s, the works in Plexiglas - a material that allowed her to present shadows of shadows - and the shadows lying embroidered on sheets and, in the following decade, the shadow theatres.

This exhibition is the second initiative organised in the context of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa membership in the Serralves Foundation's body of Founders and is part of the Serralves Foundation's Itinerant Exhibitions Program, which aims to make the Foundation's collection accessible to a variety of audiences from all regions of the country.

The exhibition, which is free of charge, will be open to the public from May 11 to October 9 and can be visited from Monday to Friday, between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
